Big Boys' Toys: The Thrill Of Heavy Construction Equipment

Are You Aspiring To be A Heavy Rigid Vehicle Operator?

As an aspiring heavy rigid vehicle operator, when you hear the word training, you will think that you are only learning how to operate a heavy rig. This is not the case. There are many other critical things that you also need to learn to get certified as a qualified and professional driver. Below are crucial elements to note concerning auto heavy rigid vehicles.

Who Is Expected to Hold a Heavy Rigid Licence?

If you are planning on being a tow truck driver, coach driver, furniture removalist vehicle driver, heavy general freight delivery driver, refrigerated transport driver or a concrete agitator driver, you will need a heavy rigid licence. To get that licence, you will have to undergo an auto heavy rigid vehicle training course.

What Certifications Are Required?

Remember, when attaining these licences, you want to get hired by a reputable company. These companies hire highly experienced, trusted, competent and dedicated operators. You need to get certified in fatigue management and maintenance. This shows that you are compliant with certificate III in driving heavy rigid vehicles.

Also, get certified to work safely in the construction industry. Here you will attain a blue card and a white card. The blue card indicates that you can comply with policies and can understand, follow and apply Work Health and Safety (WH&S) procedures.

The white card, on the other hand, indicates that you demonstrate knowledge and awareness of health and safety requirements necessary to work safely and avoid self-harm or injury to others. It also shows that you can be able to identify, report and address potential construction hazards since you understand risk control strategies. Lastly, the white card indicates that you can adequately and correctly select and fit personal protective equipment.

You also want to be equipped with MSIC (Maritime Security Identification Card) and possess a regular and current Police Certificate. Having these documents will show your employer that you can work unmonitored or unescorted as you have met the minimum security requirements. The MSIC is an identification card that is given to an individual to indicate that he or she has been subject to background checks.

What Are the Expected Requirements for an Auto Heavy Rigid Vehicle Course?

The most common requirement in almost all institutions is that you must have held a driving licence for a particular period. This time will depend on the centre where you will be undertaking the course. There can be other additional requirements, though they may differ depending on the institution you choose. Some may require drug tests while others may require you to have met some regulatory requirements.

About Me

Big Boys' Toys: The Thrill Of Heavy Construction Equipment

Hey there. I’m Dennis Shaw. I’m a vet who has become an accidental fan of heavy equipment. When my son was younger, he only played with construction machinery toys. He had dozens of bulldozers, cranes, graders, and excavators. You can imagine his excitement when we were driving along and encountered a real-life piece of equipment in action! His excitement was quite infectious, and I found myself getting a thrill too. For his birthday, I would always take him to a construction equipment expo, so that we could check out the shiny new models. Now, he has almost finished school and plans to obtain various tickets to operate equipment. I know that I can’t be the only accidental fan of heavy construction equipment. If you find yourself similarly enthralled , I hope that you can enjoy this corner of the web.
