Big Boys' Toys: The Thrill Of Heavy Construction Equipment

Factors to Consider When Hiring Land-Clearing Equipment

Whether it's for construction purposes or reclaimation, embarking on a land-clearing project is no easy feat. However, when you have the right equipment and the right knowledge to hand, your efforts become easier. If you want to hire land-clearing equipment, here are some factors to consider.

Do you need a wet or dry hire service?

Most companies that offer plant machinery for rent will provide both wet- and dry-hire services. If your team hold the right qualifications and licenses for operating plant machinery, opting for dry hire may help you save money. However, if no team members hold the right qualifications, go for wet hire instead. The machine operators the company provides will hold the right licenses, and they'll have sufficient experience. As a result, there's far less risk of damage as your project unfolds.

What is access on your site like?

Being able to stroll and drive everyday vehicles onto a site is much easier than navigating a machine there. Aside from size, it's worth considering factors such as how the machine can move. Also, is it stable enough to drive over unstable land? Most land-clearing companies will provide you with a sound idea of which machines they can use. However, they do rely on you providing as much detail as possible. If possible, ask a construction manager to liaise with them on your behalf.

Do you know what lies beneath the surface?

If this is the first time you're working on a particular patch of land, do you know what lies beneath the surface? Using tools such as air compressors, you can accurately identify the presence of utilities. Failing to do so before you engage in land clearance could result in your project coming to a sharp halt, especially if you cause damage.

Will your budget cover the equipment from start to finish?

Land clearance, ideally, should take place with few disruptions. If your project comes to a halt due to finances and you're not sure when you can start again, you may find fresh challenges when you return. After contacting a land clearance company, get an idea of their prices and see if your budget will cover them. Try to make sure you have plenty of room for unexpected extras. From adverse weather to local planning challenges, there are lots of reasons why you may need to pour more money into your efforts.

Finally, always use an organisation that maintains its machines throughout the year. With dependable equipment, knowledge, and planning, your project should unfold relatively smoothly.

About Me

Big Boys' Toys: The Thrill Of Heavy Construction Equipment

Hey there. I’m Dennis Shaw. I’m a vet who has become an accidental fan of heavy equipment. When my son was younger, he only played with construction machinery toys. He had dozens of bulldozers, cranes, graders, and excavators. You can imagine his excitement when we were driving along and encountered a real-life piece of equipment in action! His excitement was quite infectious, and I found myself getting a thrill too. For his birthday, I would always take him to a construction equipment expo, so that we could check out the shiny new models. Now, he has almost finished school and plans to obtain various tickets to operate equipment. I know that I can’t be the only accidental fan of heavy construction equipment. If you find yourself similarly enthralled , I hope that you can enjoy this corner of the web.
