Big Boys' Toys: The Thrill Of Heavy Construction Equipment

4 Advantages of Using an On-Site Concrete Mixer

If you are planning to carry out a construction job which involves using a lot of concrete, you may be considering investing in a concrete mixer so you can prepare the concrete onsite. Below is a guide to four benefits of using a concrete mixer.

1. You can access high-quality fresh concrete

The older a concrete mix gets, the greater the chances become that it will degrade and produce a weaker final product. By mixing on-site, you cut out the delivery times generated by off-site mixing and so ensure a high-quality final product.

2. You can make multiple mixes

If your construction project requires a range of different types of concrete, you can make them onsite in a concrete mixer rather than having to order them. While it will take a few minutes to reconfigure a mixer to produce slab mix concrete rather than a flowable fill, this still provides a greater degree of flexibility and speed when compared to ordering different mixes from an external concrete provider.

3. You waste less concrete

When ordering wet concrete from an external company, it can sometimes be difficult to judge exactly how much concrete you will need. A quantity of concrete will often be lost as it dries out or is split during transportation to the site or transfer from the mixer wagon. This can result in site managers ordering much more concrete than they actually need. However, with an onsite concrete mixer, this problem is eliminated. You can simply produce smaller batches of concrete on an as-needed basis. This means you do not need to worry about having a surplus of concrete at the end of the working day which will harden and go to waste.

4. You can respond to changes quickly

During a construction job, it is possible for the brief to change at a moment's notice. For example, you may find that you suddenly need much more concrete than initially planned due to changes in the design or specification of the building you are constructing. If this occurs and you are reliant on fresh concrete being delivered by an external company, you may find that you suffer extended periods of downtime which could cause the project to fall behind schedule. However, with an onsite concrete mixer, you can quickly mix the additional concrete you need so your work teams can continue with the construction job.

Big Boys' Toys: The Thrill Of Heavy Construction Equipment

Hey there. I’m Dennis Shaw. I’m a vet who has become an accidental fan of heavy equipment. When my son was younger, he only played with construction machinery toys. He had dozens of bulldozers, cranes, graders, and excavators. You can imagine his excitement when we were driving along and encountered a real-life piece of equipment in action! His excitement was quite infectious, and I found myself getting a thrill too. For his birthday, I would always take him to a construction equipment expo, so that we could check out the shiny new models. Now, he has almost finished school and plans to obtain various tickets to operate equipment. I know that I can’t be the only accidental fan of heavy construction equipment. If you find yourself similarly enthralled , I hope that you can enjoy this corner of the web.
